MISSION STATEMENT:
Architecture Omi is conceived to facilitate projects exploring the intersection of architecture, art and landscape, offering a pristine natural sixty acres site on the four hundred acre campus of the Omi International Arts Center. The program will foster the development and production of physical installations and theoretical musings in a laboratory-style setting.
The vision for Architecture Omi is to create a fusion of natural and synthetic resources; a sanctuary where the public can experience a diversity of architectural installations spread across a myriad of natural ecosystems and designed landscapes on the Architecture Omi grounds. The result will be a new category of hybrid parkland which melds enlightened ecological conservation practices and experimental constructions. The synthesis of nature art and architecture will create an ongoing dialogue on the interrelationships connecting nature and culture as well as art and architecture.
The Program encourages built structures such as pavilions, earthworks, landscape interventions, constructed environments as well as ideas, propositions and ruminations in all varieties of related media. Its primary mission includes the following: to offer an opportunity to test architectonic and intellectual ideas through hands-on and theoretical investigation; to allow practitioners a site free of normative client based architectural constraints for the realization of theoretical ideas; to encourage awareness of the relationship between built form and the environment and to create an enlightened ecologically sustainable parkland; to provide discourse among the public, architecture, and art communities internationally; and to establish partnerships with art, education, scientific and all other pertinent institutions in order to explore initiatives and realize projects at the Omi International Arts Center.
