Charles Ginnever, Sculpture:

Charles Ginnever, Sculpture an exhibition of 12 major outdoor installations
July 20, 2003

The Fields Sculpture Park at the Omi International Arts Center is pleased to announce an important retrospective of the sculptural work of Charles Ginnever.

Mr. Ginnever began making sculpture in the late 1950's. His work, from the very beginning of his career, has been hugely influential in the development of contemporary sculpture. He has helped to pioneer the acceptance of large scale abstract sculpture as a vital and important means of formal expression. As such, his vast experience in making large scaled installations for public spaces has paved the way for generations of younger sculptors who have followed in his footsteps.

For this show, The Fields has assembled 12 pieces and installed them on a vast rolling field. The work is fascinating, and as with the best sculpture, only reveals itself when experienced in three dimensions.

Constructing pieces with heavy plate steel, each sculpture shares explores the themes of light and shadow, mass and void and line and plane. The effect is startlingly complex and perceptually provocative.
