Solstice at Barbacoa
5 – 9 PM
Join us in celebrating another Solstice at Barbacoa with architect Craig Shillitto, and collaborators Katie Merz and Curt Gobrecht. This installation, aligned with the solstice sunset, will host an evening of food and music as we watch the sun set on the longest day of the year. This free community tasting gives attendees a rare opportunity to enjoy the park on the cusp of nightfall!
Food and beverage inspired by pre-Columbian and post-Columbian recipes will be served. The central pit fire will be used for a whole pig provided by Lovers Leap Farm and cooked in “Baracoa” style all day, served beginning at 5 p.m.
Prismatic by Hou de Sousa will be illuminated at dusk on June 22 during Solstice at Barbacoa—come experience the work in its luminous glory!
Barbacoa was created by architect Craig Shillitto, with collaborators Bobby Palombo, Katie Merz, Mateo Fernandez-Muro and Pete Lipson.
Join us on Saturday mornings for this popular workshop for young artists ages 5 - 12! Based on a weekly theme and inspired by artworks in the Sculpture & Architecture Park and Newmark Gallery, each workshop includes an outdoor adventure and a hands-on artmaking activity. Led by teaching artists, children are divided into two groups by age and participate in developmentally appropriate projects that encourage curiosity, experimentation, and creative thinking through a variety of materials and experiences.
FIRST WEDNESDAY OF EACH MONTH
Playgroup meets on October 2, November 6, December 18 (no Playgroup on December 4), January 8, February 5, March 4, April 1, and May 6.
